The Free Market Mindset at Harvard

Anyone near Harvard this weekend? On Saturday, March 7th, the public is welcome to attend a conference called “THE FREE MARKET MINDSET: History, Psychology, and Consequences” put on by the Harvard Law School. Contrary to the very open sounding title, the program line-up sounds much more biased:

“The market collapse has brought not only financial crisis but a crisis of faith in what Ronald Reagan famously called “the magic of the market place.” If the current state of the U.S. economy makes clear that former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan’s faith in free markets was misplaced, the question remains: what was it about free markets that proved — and still continues to prove — so alluring to economists, scholars, and policy-makers alike?”

    It was pointed out on an email list that only one of the listed participants for this silly conference is an economist. Seems like a bunch of lawyers, sociologists and the like…
